Coloured Bull Terrier Club Show 6th May 2006 |

My thanks to the committee for
inviting me to judge and my congratulations on a very well run, and
enjoyable show in their new lovely new venue. The overall quality of
the entry was heartening, black brindles were predominant, very few rich
mahogany brindles and even fewer reds, but to the credit of the breeders
most were well marked. The bold eye once common to the coloured Bull
Terrier is now less evident, in fact many exhibits had the correctly
placed deep set eye giving the correct expression. I was very pleased to
note a significant improvement in mouths, all the exhibits were in good
condition and all concerned should feel justifiably proud. The problems
at the moment seem to be tail et and carriage; front construction also
caused me some concern. Many exhibits today had no depth to the
forechest with upright shoulders combined with steep upper arms and
were consequently restricted in front movement. The ideal ‘gun barrel’
front would seem to be a rarity. My BIS winner Tyber Groundpower
exemplified sound construction and free movement. |

Special Veteran D or B 1. Blairs Megavilles Adella, 7 y.o. black brindle bitch with good profiled head. Good spring of rib, good hind angulation, moved and showed well.
|
|
Special Brood Bitch1. Backhouse’s Ishaba Geoffs Delight black brindle bitch with lovely sweep to well-filled head, but mouth not perfect. Long neck but also long in loin. Not the depth of brisket or spring of rib I would have liked.
|
|
Puppy Dog1. Toussaint’s Aldamar Baccarat tri-coloured 10 month pup. Good sound construction with good shoulders and hindquarters, deep through skull but not enough downface. Moved freely when settled. 2. Darren’s Ishaba Inspiration tri-coloured pup with curved profile marred by a slight dip. Big ribs but shoulders could be better, rather straight in stifle, and the added burden of being undershot.
|
|
Junior Dog1. Welsby’s & Dandridge’s Sherrywells Red Dragon (TAF) red powerfully built with long head. Ear carriage could be better, and needs more spring of rib. Hindquarters and tail set prevented the natural flow of the bodylines and rather spoilt the picture on the move. 2. Chapman’s Inversu Solo Pathfinder black brindle with good head that appeared rather short for his length of body. Showed and handled well.

Novice Dog 1. Stubbs Tyber Groundpower quality upstanding black brindle. Good head, well filled through would have liked a smaller eye. Correct mouth. Good shoulders and well angulated hindquarters. Excellent condition, moved freely and effortlessly with power, reach and drive. BIS 2. Proctor & McIntyre’s Simpau Little Bit Foyri at Highcrest brindle dog with good head and expression. Well boned in good condition would have liked better shoulders and depth in front. Best brindle. 3. Padgett & Summer’s Meridianview Voodoo King

|
Limit Dog1. Wannop’s Charishalee Slim Shady black brindle with good well filled head. Sound construction, compact, big ribs, his feet could be tighter. Moved well with drive. Res BIS 2. Nelme’s Red Whinnel attractive red dog with good head. Good Bone, condition, and bend of stifle. Hind movement most disappointing, lacking power and swinging hocks in Best red. Open Dog Abs.
